The STUDOR® MAXI-VENT™ Air Admittance Valve (AAV) can be used for venting stack systems in buildings up to 10 storeys high. In domestic situations it completely eliminates the requirement for vent piping through the roof allowing termination of the vent pipe below roof level. It improves the performance of the drainage system and prevents odorous gases from reaching the atmosphere. It is EN12380 A1 rated which means that, when fitted with the optional Aluminium Cover, it has a tested minimum operating temperature range of -20C to +60C which makes it suitable for outdoor use.
Although the current BBA Approval Certificate does not specifically mention external use, many BCOs accept that the independently certified operating temperature range of the Studor Maxi-Vent makes it suitable for outdoor use and have passed it for external use on that basis. Please consult with your local Building Control Officer before ordering.

The Aluminium Cover provides additional protection to the Maxi-Filtra and is mandatory for external installations of the MAXI-VENT. The cover and its polystyrene lining provide insulation against extreme temperatures (-20°C to +60°C) and protection from animals, birds and the environment, i.e. severe inclement weather or constant exposure to the sun's ultra-violet rays. Unlike the ABS plastic of the filter itself, the Aluminium Cover can also be painted to blend in with the background in situations where an aesthetic appearance is important.
The MAXI-VENT™ is suitable for internal or external installation. (* see note below) In images 1 & 2, an external vent pipe, which previously protruded through the roof, has been cut down below eave height and has been fitted with a MAXI-VENT™ and the optional aluminium cover. In image 3, a MAXI-VENT™ has been installed internally, terminating the vent pipe within the loft space and avoiding the need to penetrate the roof

* N.B. The current UK BBA certificate only mentions internal use. However, many Building Control Officers agree that the EN12380 A1 rated operating temperature range of the Studor MAXI-VENT™ (-20C to +60C) make it suitable for outdoor use and have passed it for external use on that basis. Please check with your local Inspector before ordering.
There is only one model of MAXI-VENT™ which can be adapted to fit most common pipe sizes as shown in the following diagrams. Determine the size of your pipe and select the appropriate button below - a window will open up to show you what components are necessary to adapt the device to your pipe. These components are available at most DIY stores and cost just a few euros.

The easiest way to determine pipe size is to read the lettering printed vertically on the pipe. The "DN" number will tell you what the External Diameter is. If this is not possible use a ruler, taking care to avoid parallax error.
