NOT SURE WHETHER TO ORDER THE FILTRA OR THE VENT? READ THIS FIRST Sometimes it may be difficult to decide whether to order the Maxi-Vent Air Admittance Valve or the Maxi-Filtra Activated Carbon Filter. When a builder has positioned the septic tank quite close to the house, he may run the ventilation pipe up the wall of the house to above roof height. This can cause customers to think that, because this pipe terminates "at the top of the house", it must be for letting air in and therefore the required product is the Maxi-Vent. In actual fact this particular pipe is there to let air out and requires a Maxi-Filtra. If you fit a Maxi-Vent to it, it will stop the system from venting properly. So how do you tell which pipe is which? Here are some guidelines: If the pipe comes out of the ground (and even if it goes up the wall) it is almost certainly an air outlet that requires a Maxi-Filtra Activated Carbon Filter. If it originates inside the house and emerges through the roof, or emerges through a wall and goes upwards, it is probably an air inlet pipe that requires a Maxi-Vent Air Admittance Valve. When in doubt, fit the Maxi-Filtra Activated Carbon Filter. It allows air to flow in both directions but blocks the sulphides that cause the smell.
